    DESCRIPTION:

    Digoxin Oral Solution is a prescription heart disease treatment. It is useful in treating congestive heart failure caused by abnormal heart rhythm or insufficient blood volume pumping by the heart, and for enlarged, weak heart or dilated cardiomyopathy. It is most frequently prescribed concomitantly with other medications, like ACE inhibitors or diuretics.


    Key Benefits: Digoxin affects potassium and sodium minerals in the heart cells of pets. This allows for reduced heart strain, and it allows for the maintenance of a strong, steady, and normal heartbeat.

    Possible Side Effects: Potential adverse reactions include:

  • Dehydration
  • Lethargy
  • Inappetence
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Worsening heart failure
  • Elevated serum levels

    Precautions:

  • Digoxin often causes increased serum levels and oxygen requirements.
  • Administer cautiously, and only with veterinary approval, to cats - particularly those who have feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • Administer cautiously to pets who have kidney or liver disease.
  • Administer cautiously to pets with severe pulmonary or heart disease.
  • Administering to a pet with a heart problem can be more harmful than helpful.
  • Tell your vet about your pet's entire health history, including AV block, chronic constrictive pericarditis, ventricular tachycardias, acute myocardial infarct, acute myocarditis, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, digitalis intoxication, or ventricular arrhythmias.
  • Collies could be more susceptible to central nervous system reactions. Therefore, Digoxin should be administered cautiously to dogs of this breed.
  • Keep out of reach of animals and children.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry environment.

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency pet hospital.
