Lactated Ringers Solution is a DEHP-free solution that replaces acute fluids and corrects mild acidosis.

    How is Medication Given?

  • Recommended dosing is 2 mg to 5 mL/lb of body weight, based on the animal's condition and size.
  • Administer 1-3 times each day, based on need.
  • Use careful aseptic technique to inject intraperitoneally (not in horses), subcutaneously, or intravenously.

    What Results Can I Expect? Lactated Ringers Solution is used to correct:

  • Metabolic Acidosis
  • Electrolyte Depletion
  • Dehydration

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable

    Dose and Administration: Sold in bags of 500 mL (1/2 liter), 1000 mL (1 liter), or 5000 mL (5 liters).

    Possible Side Effects: When used properly, side effects are rare. Abscesses or infections may occur at the site of injection if sterility and proper technique are not ensured. Allergic reactions are possible, which should be treated emergently. Signs of an allergic reaction include:

  • Coma
  • Seizures
  • Cold Limbs
  • Pale Gums
  • Vomiting
  • Shock
  • Scratching
  • Sudden Onset of Diarrhea
  • Swollen Face
  • Hives

    Precautions: Do not administer to humans. Only safe for animal use. Keep away from children.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a dry and cool environment 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C).
