DESCRIPTION:

Fluoxetine is an antidepressant that is useful in treating separation anxiety when combined with a behavior modification plan.

Key Benefits: Fluoxetine interferes with the chemicals within the brain that may cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive behavior.

Formulated For: Intended for cats and dogs.

How is Medication Given? Administer 1 tablet daily according to the following dosing recommendations:

  • Dogs 8.8 to 17.6 Pounds: 8 mg
  • Dogs 17.7 to 35.2 Pounds: 16 mg
  • Dogs 35.3 to 70.4 Pounds: 32 mg
  • Dogs 70.5 to 140.8 Pounds: 64 mg

    What Results Can I Expect? Fluoxetine treats separation anxiety in dogs (together with behavior modification).

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in strengths of 10 and 20 mg.

    Possible Side Effects:

  • Gastrointestinal upset or inappetence are possible.
  • The most common side effects of Fluoxetine use are drowsiness or lethargy.
  • Pet parents should understand the phenomenon of "disinhibition" in animals treated with anti-anxiety drugs. This condition causes the inhibitions of the animal to become reduced, particularly where aggression is concerned. When the pet is no longer anxious about the potential consequences of bad behavior, previously docile animals may become aggressive suddenly when taking this or any other anti-anxiety drug.

    Precautions:

  • Desiccant canister should never be removed from the bottle.
  • Keep bottle closed tightly when not in use.

    Storage Recommendations: Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Brief excursions permitted between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C).

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency pet hospital.
