DESCRIPTION:

Benazepril Hydrochloride Tablets are the generic alternative to the brand-name Lotensin. This medication treats certain kidney diseases, It also treats heart failure and high blood pressure in dogs or cats. It may be used independently or concomitantly with thiazide diuretic medications.

Key Benefits: Benazepril works by preventing angiotensin I, a chemical within the blood, from becoming more potent and increasing salt and water retention within the animal's body.

Formulated For: Intended for cats and dogs.

What Results Can I Expect? Benazepril is effective in lowering blood pressure, dilating veins, and decreasing fluid retention.

What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in strengths of 10 mg or 5 mg (extra small or regular tablets).

Possible Side Effects: If you observe symptoms of an allergic reaction in your pet, pursue emergency treatment:

  • Trouble Breathing
  • Lip Swelling
  • Facial Swelling
  • Tongue Swelling
  • Hives

    Other adverse reactions are uncommon, but could include:

  • Inappetence
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Low Blood Pressure
  • Kidney Dysfunction (Marked by Increased Thirst)
  • If you observe these or any other signs of a side effect, consult your veterinarian.

    Precautions:

  • Administer cautiously to a lactating pet.
  • Never administer to a pregnant pet unless the benefits and risks have been carefully assessed.
  • Administer cautiously critically ill pets or those with acute kidney injury.
  • Administer cautiously to pets with low sodium, low blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, lupus, or blood cell abnormalities.
  • Never administer to an allergic pet or one with an allergy to any ACE inhibiting drug.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry location.

    In Case of Overdose: Contact the nearest emergency pet clinic immediately.
