SMZ Sulfa Trimethoprim is a comprehensive antibiotic used to treat respiratory, urinary tract, and gastrointestinal infections.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in strengths of 480 mg or 960 mg.
    Possible Side Effects: Rare adverse reactions include:

  • Allergic reactions (with signs to include hives, scratching, seizures, facial swelling, sudden onset of diarrhea, shock, cold limbs, pale gums, or coma)
  • Low platelet-related bleeding
  • Anemia-related gum paleness and lethargy
  • Severe or fatal diarrhea (horses should be monitored for development of diarrhea or manure changes, and if noted, a veterinarian should be notified at once)
  • Sulfa crystals in the urine (which can be prevented via proper hydration) If you notice any signs of an adverse reaction, consult your veterinarian right away.

    Precautions If you observe signs of a side effect, consult your veterinarian. Ensure that your pet has constant access to water while taking this medication. Do not administer to pregnant or nursing animals.

    Storage Recommendations: Store at room temperature in a cool and dry environment.
