DESCRIPTION:

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is useful in treating skin infection. It is also used to treat skin or soft tissue infections in cats, along with bladder and respiratory infections in dogs.

Key Benefits: Cefpodoxime Proxetil is useful in treating canine skin infections (wounds and abscesses) associated with susceptible bacteria, including Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus canis (ß hemolytic or Group B), Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida, or Proteus mirabilis.

Formulated For: Intended for cats and dogs.

How is Medication Given?

  • Typical dosing recommendations are 2.3 mg to 4.5 mg per pound of body weight administered orally and daily for a 5-to-7-day period, or until the clinical signs have been resolved for 2-3 days.
  • Do not administer for more than 28 days.
  • Follow your veterinarian's exact directions when using this product.

    What Results Can I Expect? Cefpodoxime Proxetil is approved by the FDA for treating bacterial skin infections. It is a once-daily, easy-to-dose treatment that can be given with or without food.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in 100 and 200 mg strengths.

    Possible Side Effects: Penicillins, cephalosporins, and other antimicrobials can lead to allergic reactions in some individuals. To prevent such a reaction, prevent direct medication contact with the skin or mucous membranes.

    Precautions:

  • This drug has not been proven safe for use in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs.
  • Positive results in direct Coombs' tests could occur.

    Storage Recommendations: Keep at room temperature between 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). After opening, be sure to keep cap tightly fastened.

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency pet hospital. Symptoms of overdose can include reduced heat tolerance, personality change, hyperactivity, and increased thirst, urination and hunger.
