DESCRIPTION:

Amoxicillin is a comprehensive antibiotic that treats a broad range of infections in a number of animal species. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by preventing cell wall formation within the cells of bacteria. It should only be used to treat bacterial infections.

  • Amoxicillin binds to PBP-1A (a penicillin-building protein) in the cell wall of bacteria.
  • When Penicillin acylases with the transpeptidase C-terminal domain, which is penicillin-sensitive, the lactase ring is opened.
  • Hindering the third and last stage of the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, two linear peptidoglycan strands cross-link to stop development by inactivating that enzyme.
  • Amoxicillin can hinder through an autolysin inhibitor.
  • Cell lysis mediation is accomplished through autolytic cell wall enzymes, such as autolysins.

    Formulated For: Amoxicillin is used for dogs, cats, horses, birds and fish.

    What Results Can I Expect? Amoxicillin treats bacterial infections, but is not effective against viral or parasitic infections. It can be used to treat infections of the lower respiratory tract, wounds, or skin.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Capsules

    Dose and Administration: Capsules are sold individually in strengths of 250 mg or 500 mg.

    Possible Side Effects: The most frequently reported adverse reactions associated with Amoxicillin are:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach Upset

    These symptoms are often lessened by administering in conjunction with food. They may also diminish over extended-duration treatment. If symptoms are persistent, consult your veterinarian.

    Precautions Tell your veterinarian about all other medications (including vitamins, supplements, bacteriostatic antibiotics, and probenecid) your pet is taking before administering this medication. Interactions or complications can result with certain concomitant medications.

    Storage Recommendations: Keep medication out of reach of children. Keep in a cool and dry environment, do not expose to direct sunlight or heat. Avoid damp places, as it damages the efficacy of the medication.

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency animal hospital.
