    DESCRIPTION:

    Azithromycin works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is not used to treat viruses, such as a cold or the flu.

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in a strength of 600 mg.

    Possible Side Effects:

  • Overdose can cause side effects like diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal cramping.
  • High doses may also cause vomiting. However, this is less common with Azithromycin than with Erythromycin.

    Precautions: Certain medications can interact negatively with this drug.

  • Cyclosporine can increase blood levels.
  • Sucralfate can decrease the effects of this medication.
  • Hepatic enzyme-inhibiting drugs can alter the body's metabolization of this drug.
  • Antacids can reduce the absorption rate of this medication.
  • Do not administer to a patient with known macrolide sensitivity, to those with liver disease, or to those taking cisapride.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry location.

    In Case of Overdose: Contact the nearest emergency pet clinic immediately.
