    DESCRIPTION

    FlunixiJect Flunixin Meglumine is used to relieve the inflammation and pain associated with equine musculoskeletal disorders. It can also be used to relieve visceral colic-related pain.

    How is Medication Given?

  • To treat a musculoskeletal disorder, a daily dose of 0.5 mg for every pound of body weight (1 mL per 100 pounds) is recommended.
  • To relieve pain caused by equine colic, a dose of 0.5 mg for every pound of body weight (1 mL per 100 pounds) is recommended.
  • For rapid relief, administer intravenously.

    What Results Can I Expect? Flunixin Meglumine can be intravenously or intramuscularly injected for up to 5 days for relief of the visceral pain associated with colic.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable

    Dose and Administration: Each vial contains 100 mL or 250 mL.

    Possible Side Effects: Discontinue use and notify a veterinarian if the animal experiences:

  • Symptoms of a stomach ulcer (including inappetence, diarrhea, dark stools, tarry stools, bloody stools, or constipation)
  • Symptoms of a kidney problem (including increased thirst, more frequent urination, or changes in the color or smell of the urine
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding

    Injection site infections following intramuscular use could prove fatal. Be sure to inform your vet if the horse shows signs of:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Fever

    If signs of a serious allergic reaction are noted, pursue emergency treatment. Such symptoms include:

  • Facial swelling
  • Hives
  • Scratching
  • Sudden onset of diarrhea
  • Shock
  • Seizures
  • Pale gums
  • Cold limbs
  • Coma

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry location.

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest animal hospital.
