DESCRIPTION

Banamine Injectable is a sterile solution that uses Flunixin Meglumine to relieve the pain and inflammation caused by equine colic or musculoskeletal disorders. In the U.S., this medication is also approved for use in cattle.

    How is Medication Given?
    For Cattle:

  • This solution controls pyrexia caused by acute bovine mastitis, endotoxemia (and related inflammation), or bovine respiratory disease.
  • Recommended dosage rate to control endotoxemia-related pyrexia, endotoxemia-related inflammation, or bovine respiratory disease-related pyrexia is 1.1 mg to 2.2 mg per kg of body weight administered slowly and intravenously once daily, or divided into to equal doses and administered every 12 hours. Administer for 3 days or less, never exceeding 2.2 mg per kg.
  • Do not administer rapidly by intravenous injection.
  • Recommended dosage rate to treat acute bovine mastitis is 2.2 mg per kg of body weight administered intravenously one time.

    For Horses:

  • This solution relieves pain and inflammation caused by equine musculoskeletal disorders. It also relieves the visceral pain caused by equine colic.
  • Recommended dosage rate to treat musculoskeletal disorders is 0.5 mg for every pound of body weight administered intramuscularly or intravenously one time each day. Repeat for 5 days or less.
  • Activity onset is shown to occur within 2 hours, with peak response occurring between 12-16 hours and activity duration lasting 24-36 hours.
  • Recommended dosage rate to relieve equine colic-related pain is 0.5 mg for every pound of body weight administered intravenously to promptly relieve pain. Typically, pain relief is seen in 15 minutes or less. Re-treat as needed when colic symptoms return. In studies, 10% of horses needed 1 to 2 additional treatments. Colic cause should be evaluated and treated separately.

    What Results Can I Expect? Banamine Injectable is useful in treating pain and lameness in horses, reducing the inflammation associated with musculoskeletal disorders in horses, and delivering rapid pain relief for horses and cattle.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable

    Dose and Administration: Each vial contains 100 mL or 250 mL.

    Possible Side Effects: Rare reports of side effects associated with intramuscular neck region administration have included:

  • Localized swelling
  • Sweating
  • Induration
  • Stiffness

    Other rare side effects include:

  • Development of a fatal or non-fatal clostridial or other type of infection (primarily following intramuscular use).
  • Anaphylactic-likereactions in horses and cattle, sometimes fatal (primarily following intravenous use).

    Precautions:

  • If using this product within 24 hours of parturition, cow should be closely monitored for placenta retention.
  • When administering immediately postpartum, NSAID treatment can interfere with uterine area involution and expulsion of the fetal membrane.
  • When administering during prostaglandin estrous phase, a delay may occur in estrus onset.
  • NSAID treatment is known to have a tocolytic effect, which can cause parturition delays.
  • Never give to a breeding bull. Reproductive repercussions have not been studied.
  • NSAID treatment can have effects on parturition and estrus cycles.
  • This product has not been proven safe for use in pregnant horses, or in horses taking any other drug. Therefore, horses taking other medications in conjunction with BANAMINE should be monitored.

    Storage Recommendations: Store at room temperature, 2 and 30 degrees C (36 and 86 degrees F)
