Prong collars should be put on and taken off before and after daily training sessions.

This collar is made of interlocking links, each with two blunt prongs that meet the dog's skin when the collar tightens. This collar is to be used when training with a lead. It is NOT recommended that you leave it on unattended dogs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miracle Worker I have an 18-month old 100-lb Saint Bernard pup, who I LOVE taking for walks, but I have not been able to fix her constant tugging on the leash. She's a big girl! And I was starting to hesitate taking her out being afraid that she'd either pull me into the middle of traffic or my arm would get ripped out of its socket. I bought the prong collar and all I can say is MIRACLE WORKER! My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe how polite she was on our first walk together (Yes, there is a bit of learning curve for human and canine but that was over with in just a couple of minutes). Great product. I wish I had bought it sooner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power Steering... I have a Great Dane, that loved to take me for walks. I tried everything to keep her from pulling. I tried the head harnesses, body harnesses, choke chain, all to no avil. One day I went in to Petsmart to return the head lead that didn't work, and ran into another Great Dane owner with her pup. He was walking like a champ right next to her and not pulling. She told me to try the pinch training collar. So I got it that day and it was a total transformation. The spikes are dull and don't really stab your dog, they just remind her that you are in control. I recomend this product to any one that has a problem with their dog pulling. Its Power Steering for your dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective I have a 100 lb dog who walks terribly on a leash! he's pure muscle and pulls me all over the place, so i was hoping to find a collar that could slow him down. this collar really did the trick! it looks intimidating and cruel, but really it just gives a little pinch, which seems to be much more effective than just an ordinary choke collar. my dog did NOT want to pull on the leash. It's also nice that you can take off the little segments to adjust the collar to fit your pet perfectly

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a wasted money. I bought 2 different sizes. Had them both adjusted . on several occasions my dog slipped out of both. Or should I say the prongs. Poorly designed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way to go! My 45 lb German Shepard mix sounds small but she can pull! I also tried choke collars and working training sessions with her but she would still pull. I was recomended this by someone in the vets office and so I finally forked out the $$. Now she will still try to pull a little if she is REALLY excited. I have noticed that this helps the most when we go running. She stays right beside me. I was a little concerened with the appearence of the collar at first but once I realized that it doesn't poke them it just pinches large portions of skin, which is just slightly uncomfortable for them. I would recommend this but to have your dog there when you get it because I didn't and I think I got a size a little too big.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm so in awe right now. My husband and I just adopted a 4 year old Pit Bull from our local shelter about two and a half weeks ago. He's such a sweetie, and a joy to have in our lives. He went into the shelter as a stray so we had no prior history. So far we've had no issues introducing him to people, or big dogs. Little dogs and other animals are a different story, and his leash manners were atrocious. Nothing could get his attention off of the small animals he'd see out on our walks, not sounds, commands, pulling, or treats. Nothing worked. We started watching training videos about prong collars and even though I had always thought they were mean, I realized I actually knew nothing about them. We picked up the Top Paw prong collar today from PetSmart, came home and refreshed our knowledge on how to fit/use it properly and went for it. We just witnessed, within 3 minutes of our dog having the collar on, a complete 180 in his leash temperament. The Top Paw prong collar has rounded tips on each prong so that they won't scratch, or puncture the dogs skin. Before he pulled like a freight train (no exaggeration, if I could post a picture of his muscles I would and you'd believe me when I say freight train) and now he doesn't pull at all. Night and day difference. PLEASE, if your dog takes YOU for walks, look into this, but educate yourself on proper use first. If it hurts your dog, your doing something wrong. I'm SO pleased we finally decided to go this route and I'm so glad PetSmart had a reasonably priced option locally for us. We just walked him past two or three little dogs in our complex and while he tried to go say hello at first, he quickly corrected himself and our rotator cuffs are still in good shape! ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT! This product is amazing! I have two puppies (11 mon, Pitbull mix & 10 mon Lab/Shep Mix, both abandoned rescues) who could easily pull me across town in minutes if they wanted to. The pulling was to a point that i was not able to walk them both by myself without having rope burn, no control and nutso dogs. I was recommended these and was totally not for it. I thought they looked mean and would hurt my dogs. After reaching my point of frusteration, i went to the store and inspected it. Seeing it and how it works made me even more uneasy. I happened to have my dogs there so i tried it on one of them. INSTANT change. The pit walked right beside me, was listening and so attentive. I couldnt believe it, I tried the other, exact same result. I bought them both one, and took them for a spin around our neighbourhood, the true test with all the distractions. My pit pulled for about 2 minutes until he realized the pressure and slowed beside me. It has literally been a complete change, I can walk them anywhere with these and they stay by my side on a slack leash and listen so well. I recommend these to anyone who is struggling with pulling dogs, no control and even attention control on walks. They are excellent and completely harmless. I have gotten compliments after compliments about how well my pups listen and walk. Its truly worth the price. The only downfall with these is that the sizing is off. My smaller dog has a very small neck, and the size recommended for her the prongs were so small i was worried they would break with one good pull, so i had to buy the next size up and take about half the prongs out. Otherwise, there a great investment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend a prong (pinch) collar The first time I saw a pinch collar, it looked like a torture device. I was having trouble (being dragged by) my Amstaff-pitbull when a man suggested I get a prong collar for her. I had tried a choke chain and it did not work at all, a dog will still drag you on the leash and practically choke itself trying to get at whatever it wants to lunge at with a choke chain. A pinch collar is different. The man that saw my dog dragging me, said that the prongs are filed down flat (they do not cut into the dog's neck). The safety mechanism (the rings) will stop the collar from pinching too far. He told me it corrects the dog like when she was a pup and her mom picked her up by the scruff of her neck. Dogs learned from an early age, that it's a form of correction. If you do a net search "how to fit a prong collar", one site has some good pictures of how to fit this collar on the dog and which loops to use and what they do. It's also best to let someone show you how it works in person if they are familiar with them. One word of caution, if you get lazy (like I did) and decide to pull the collar over the dog's eyes, you may catch his/her eyelids or nose and do some damage! Especially if the dog moves! I learned to put put my fingers between the prongs and my dog's eyes to protect her eyes from those prongs, while pulling it over her head but I really don't suggest doing that. It's much safer to unhook the collar by one of its prong pieces. Another note of caution: never leave a choke chain or pinch collar on a dog unless you're walking it. If they jump on something (especially over a fence), it can get caught on the fence and hang the dog! Please only use the collars during walking or training. Good luck and happy walks with your dog.
