DESCRIPTION: Vetameg Injectable contains Flunixin Meglumine, a non-steroidal, non-narcotic, and potent analgesic with anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory qualities for use in cattle and horses. In cattle, it controls endotoxemia-related inflammation and pyrexia caused by acute bovine mastitis and bovine respiratory disease. In horses, it relieves the pain and inflammation caused by musculoskeletal disorders and the visceral pain caused by colic.
Key Benefits:
Flunixin Meglumine relieves inflammation and pain in cattle and horses. It is also antipyretic. It is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that persists within inflammatory tissue, and its anti-inflammatory qualities extend beyond the detectable plasma drug concentration period.
Formulated For: For horses and cattle.
How is Medication Given?
For cattle, the recommended dosage rate to control endotoxemia-related inflammation and pyrexia caused by endotoxemia and BRD (bovine respiratory disease) is 1.1 mg to 2.2 mg for every kg of body weight (1 mL to 2 mL for every 100 pounds) administered slowly and intravenously once daily or in two divided doses 12 hours apart. Administer for 3 days or less. Never administer a daily dose greater than 2.2 mg per kg (1 mg per pound). Do not administer rapidly. To treat acute cases of bovine mastitis, administer 2.2 mg per kg (1 mg per pound) as a single intravenous dose. For horses, the recommended dosage rate for musculoskeletal disorder management is 0.5 mg for every pound of body weight (1 mL per 100 pounds) administered intramuscularly or intramuscularly daily for up to a 5-day period. Studies demonstrate that activity onset occurs within 2 hours after dosing, with peak response taking place between 12 to 16 hours after dosing and lasting for 24 to 36 hours total. The recommended dosage rate for relief of colic-related pain is 0.5 mg for every pound of body weight administered intravenously (to deliver quick pain relief). Pain may be relieved in as few as 15 minutes. Repeat treatment with colic pain recurrence. In clinical studies, about 10% of horses needed 1 to 2 more treatments. The cause of the colic should also be diagnosed and treated separately. Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product.

What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable
Dose and Administration: Sold in a vial containing 100 or 250 mL.
Possible Side Effects:
Rare anaphylactic-like reactions have occurred in certain intravenously treated cattle and horses. Some of these were fatal. Rarely, nonfatal or fatal infections (such as clostridial infections) have occurred with intramuscular use in horses. â¢Isolated local reaction reports after intramuscular injection in horses (especially in the neck) include stiffness, induration, sweating, or localized swelling. When used as prescribed, there are no known contraindications for use in cattle or horses. Not for use in hypersensitive animals. Use cautiously if gastric ulcers or renal impairment are suspected. Do not inject intra-arterially. Intra-arterial injection can cause side effects like muscle weakness, hysteria, hyperventilation, incoordination, or ataxia. These symptoms are short-term and resolve without treatment within just a few minutes.
Precautions:
Do not administer to a horse intended for human consumption or to a calf intended for veal processing. No withdrawal period is established for use of this medication in pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in a dry dairy cow. Do not use milk for food during treatment offor 36 hours after the final treatment. Do not slaughter a cow for food use for 4 days after the final treatment.
