DESCRIPTION: Spectramast DC Dry Cow Formula uses Ceftiofur Hydrochloride to treat subclinical mastitis at dry off associated with Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, and Streptococcus uberis. It is a sterile suspension for use in dairy cattle.
Key Benefits:
Ceftiofur is an antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against a number of pathogens. This cephalosporin drug inhibits cell wall synthesis. As a Ã-lactam antimicrobial, this medication enacts synthesis by interfering with peptidoglycan synthesis-causing enzymes. This causes cell lysis of the bacteria, leading to the bactericidal properties of this medication.
Formulated For: For dairy cattle use only.
How is Medication Given?
Plastet Syringe offers a choice between full cannula insertion (traditional practice) or 1/8-inch cannula insertion (as suggested by the National Mastitis Council). For partial insertion, remove the red cannula and white end cap by pressing sideways. Insert the now-exposed white tip gently into the canal of the teat. Infuse product carefully. For full insertion, remove the white end cap by pulling directly upward. Insert the entire cannula into the canal of the teat. Infuse product carefully. The teat ends should be prepared by washing with a proper dairy antiseptic and water, then dried thoroughly and completely emptied of milk. An alcohol pad should be used to wipe the teat ends in all affected quarters, with a fresh wipe used for every teat. Administer wearing gloves. Choose full or partial insertion length, inserting the tip into the canal of the teat and pushing the plunger to dispense the entire syringe. Massage every quarter to distribute the medication throughout the milk cistern. Infuse a single syringe into every affected quarter at dry off. After successful treatments, reinfection could occur unless good herd management, sanitation, and mechanical safety practiced are adhered to. Affected cows should be observed to prevent recurrence or spread to other animals.
