About this item
DESCRIPTION:

NAXCEL Sterile Powder contains Ceftiofur Sodium Salt, which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the cephalosporin class. It combats gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including those responsible for B-lactamase production. Like other cephalosporin antibiotics, Ceftiofur is known to be bactericidal in-vitro, which means that it inhibits cell wall synthesis. It is sterile water-free.

Key Benefits:

  • NAXCEL Sterile Powder uses a broad-spectrum antibiotic called Ceftiofur in the Sodium Salt form.
  • This cephalosporin drug is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, which includes those that produce ß-lactamase.

Formulated For: For day-old chicks, dogs, horses, goats, sheep, swine, and cattle use only.

    How is Medication Given?

  • In day-old turkey poults, this product controls the early mortality commonly caused by Ceftiofur-susceptible Escherichia coli organisms. Administer subcutaneously at a dosage rate of 0.17 mg to 0.5 mg of Ceftiofur for each poult. 1 mL of solution (50 mg per mL) is enough to treat 100 to 294 poults.
  • In day-old chicks, this product controls the early mortality commonly caused by Ceftiofur-susceptible Escherichia coli organisms. Administer subcutaneously in the chick's neck region with a sterile needle and syringe (26-gauge) or a clean automatic injection machine at a dosage rate of 0.08 mg to 0.20 mg of Ceftiofur for each chick. 1 mL of solution (50 mg per mL) is enough to treat 250 to 625 chicks.
  • In dogs, this product treats urinary tract infections caused by Proteus mirabilis or Escherichia coli. Administer subcutaneously at a dosage rate of 1 mg of Ceftiofur for every pound of body weight (or 0.1 mL of reconstituted solution for every 5 pounds of body weight). Repeat every 24 hours for a 5- to 14-day period. Do not use enter a vial closure more than 20 times. The 1-gram product vial is the only size approved for canine use.
  • Inhorses, this product treats respiratory infections caused by Streptococcus zooepidemicus. Administer intramuscularly at a dosage rate of 1 mg to 2 mg of Ceftiofur for every pound of body weight (or 2 mL to 4 mL of reconstituted solution for every 100 pounds of body weight). Do not administer more than 10 mL at a single injection site. Repeat every 24 hours and continue to administer for 48 hours after the disappearance of the last clinical sign. Do not administer for more than 10 days.
  • In goats, this product treats goat pneumonia (caprine respiratory disease) caused by Pasteurella multocida or Mannheimia haemolytica. Administer intramuscularly at a dosage rate of 0.5 mg to 1 mg for every pound of body weight (1 mL to 2 mL of reconstituted solution for every 100 pounds of body weight). Repeat every 24 hours for 3 days. If the animal hasn't recovered after 3 treatments, more treatments can be given on day 4 and day 5. Dosage rate should be determined by the veterinarian's diagnosis of the condition and the signs associated with it (such as inappetence, coughing, fever, etc). Drug elimination has been found through pharmacokinetic data to be more rapid when administered to a lactating doe. Therefore, when treating a lactating doe, a high dose is indicated.
  • In sheep, this product treats sheep pneumonia (sheep respiratory disease) caused by Pasteurella multocida or Mannheimia haemolytica.
  • In swine, this product treats and controls swine bacterial pneumonia (swine bacterial respiratory disease) caused by Streptococcus suis, Salmonella choleraesuis, Pasteurella multocida, or Haemophilus (Actinobacillus) pleuropneumoniae. Administer intramuscularly at a dosage rate of 1.36 mg to 2.27 mg of Ceftiofur for every pound of body weight (or 1 mL of reconstituted solution for every 22 to 37 pounds of body weight). Repeat every 24 hours for 3 days.
  • In cattle, this product treats pododermatitis/foot rot (acute bovine interdigital necrobacillosis) caused by Bacteroides melaninogenicus or Fusobacterium necrophorum and treats pneumonia/shipping fever (bovine respiratory disease) caused by Histophilus somni, Pasteurella multocida, or Mannheimia haemolytica. Administer subcutaneously or intramuscularly at a dosage rate of 0.5 mg to 1 mg of Ceftiofur for every pound of body weight (or 1 mL to 2 mL of reconstituted solution for every 100 pounds of body weight). Treat every 24 hours for 3 days. If the animal hasn't recovered after 3 treatments, more treatments can be given on day 4 and day 5. Dosage rate should be determined by the veterinarian's diagnosis of the condition and the signs associated with it (such as inappetence, coughing, fever, etc).
