    DESCRIPTION

    Primidone is used to prevent seizures. This medication changes seizure-causing chemical activity within the dog's brain.

    Key Benefits: Primidone works to transmute into Phenobarbital, an anticonvulsant that reduces the nerve impulses that cause seizures.

    Formulated For: Primarily used for dogs, on some rare occasions it may be prescribed to cats.

    How is Medication Given?

  • Ensure that your pet has constant access to water while taking this medication.
  • Administer with or without food.
  • Typical recommended dosage rate is 2.3 mg to 6.8 mg for every pound of the dog's body weight daily. Divide and administer in 2 to 3 doses.
  • Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product.

    What Results Can I Expect: Primidone works to reduce the prevalence and severity of epileptic seizures. It decreases seizure frequency when the condition is associated with an infection, including distemper or viral encephalitis. It is safe for long-term use.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in a single strength (50 mg).

    Possible Side Effects: Potential adverse reactions include:

  • Weight Gain
  • Increased Appetite
  • Increased Urination
  • Increased Thirst
  • Agitation or Anxiety (upon treatment initiation)
  • Liver Toxicity

    Precautions: Administer cautiously to dogs with respiratory disease, kidney disease, heart disease, Addison's disease, anemia, or dehydration.
