    Possible Side Effects:

  • This medication may be administered to pets with leukemia, low platelets, or blood disease, but they will likely require routine monitoring.
  • In rare cases, this medication can lead to blood cell line irregularities in the animal's blood marrow.
  • When administered at a high dose, this medication can cause elevated heart rate or blood pressure drops.
  • While this medication does decrease secretion of cortisol by the adrenal glands, it is not intended to treat Cushing's disease.
  • The most commonly-reported adverse reaction associated with this drug is drowsiness.
  • When brain serotonin levels get too high, serotonin syndrome is possible. This syndrome usually requires treatment to increase these levels. If you believe your pet may have this condition, the antidote is Cyproheptadine.

    Symptoms of serotonin syndrome are:

  • Elevated heart rate
  • Tremors
  • Shivering
  • Pupil dilation
  • Trouble breathing
  • Elevation in body temperature
  • High blood pressure

    Precautions: Keep away from children and animals.
