Great for beginner aquarists, tetras are attractive, hardy fish that come in a variety of colorations and color patterns. Tetras are an active, peaceful, schooling fish that mix well with other community fish. They prefer to swim in schools of five or more. Tetras can share their aquarium with other community danios, rasboras, catfish and less aggressive barbs and gouramis.

Instead of plants, tetras eat aquatic crustaceans, worms and aquatic insect larvae. Vary their diet by including frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex worms and other small worms, mosquito larvae and daphnia. You will see your tetras swimming in the middle of your aquarium. To create a beautiful environment, be sure to add some top and bottom swimmers as well. Ask a PetSmart associate to help you choose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fish!! I got these little fellows at a local petsmart and am completely pleased with them. They came very healthy, and are constantly moving around exploring. They like to hang out towards the top of the tank and are very eye catching. I recommend them for anyone who is looking for a somewhat small, easy to keep, beautiful fish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Research is VITAL Well people, this is truly one of the most amusing fish ever. They are very hardy, and their body shape is whimsical. BUT, before you get any pet, YOU MUST DO RESEARCH.This causes less death in pets. If you did your research, you would know that you must have a secure lid on the tank so they cant jump out. Don't get lured into a fish or pet just because their cuteness. Thanks and do your research.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent tetras These are great tetras I thought they would be bigger since there bellies are big but it's not really a disappointment to me. Do not put these in with a cherry barb or any barb they nip at here fins otherwise great tetras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch Top Swimmers I have a pair of Silver Hatchetfish in my 65 gallon tank with the following species: Dwarf Gourami, Red Skirt Minor Tetras, Von Rio Flame Tetras, Black Skirt Tetras, Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish, Clown Plecostomus, Otocinclus, Zebra Danios, and Dalmation Mollies. They are the quintessential species if you are looking for a top-swimming fish. They are very peaceful, and VERY silver. The smallest movement throws a lot of silvery sparkles off their flanks. Their flat sides and large, reflective scales make them very pretty fish that will work aesthetically with any variety of colors. They can be rather jumpy- one way that I've found to reduce their jumping behavior is to provide some kind of floating mat/structure for them to hide under. I attached a suction cup to the bottom of a long, soft, flexible fronded artificial plant; I secured the suction cup to the back corner of the tank so that the fronds extend just under the surface. It gives them a place to school under if I'm cleaning the tank or moving decor. The shadowy sections give them much more confidence in the tank too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite fish! I love Hatchet fish! I first saw them over 15 years ago at a pet store and I was amused by their body shape and the way they zipped around the tank. I bought 6 of them and I've had at least 4-5 of them in my tank ever since. I spoke with the store employee about what they needed and what they were like so I had a good idea of what to expect. I would recommend learning about them before adding them to you tank; it'll be better for both you and the fish. I've learned over the years that any time I clean my tank, I need to take a head count just to make sure one of them hasn't zipped out while the lid was open. I've returned a couple of these little rascals to the tank from the floor over the years but they weren't damaged or harmed with their short adventure to the outside world. You definitely need a lid to your tank or they'll just jump right out of it and they're so fast that you may not even notice. My hatchet fish usually live for years (my current ones are about 3 years old with one of them being at least a year older than that but I've had some live more than 4 years in the past). If you do your research and take care of them, they make very entertaining additions to your tank that will live for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of personality! This fish is my all time favorite fish. He is unique funny looking and simply the best. Whenever I'm having a bad day I just see this fish and he changes my mood. He gets along with my guppies, mollies, tetras and even with my African Dwarf Frog. About the jumping part my fish has not tried to fly or jump out of the aquarium. I would absolutely recommend this fish to anyone who wants something new and intersecting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing fish these fish are very active and fun to watch. they are a top water fish and rarely go down to the bottom of the aquarium. they also like to chase their reflection around the tank. these fish get along very well with other types of fish warning sometimes they might try to jump out of your aquarium so keep lid closed at all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great fish these fish are fun to watch swim but remember to keep the tank closed because these fish jump when frightend. They get along great with other fish and are not agressive, they get along great with community fish
