Fish Tank Hoods
You can prevent evaporation and accidental escapes with a solution for your aquarium size or type. Some fish can jump out of the water, and some household pets and kids can't leave an open tank alone. Additionally, an aquarium cover such as a glass lid, can act as a safety barrier between tank lighting and open water. An aquarium hood helps to shield the light, projecting it downward to light up the tank instead of out into the surrounding room. Most hoods are made from plastic and have an opening for food, but need to be removed for routine tank maintenance. Be sure that the light fixture included in the hood can use the type of bulbs and wattage you need for your tank's inhabitants, especially plants and corals. Aquarium canopies are often decorative, but serve the same purpose as a lid and a hood - a tight covering to control evaporation and escaped fish, and a base for the lighting. For large tanks (55 gallons and over), you may need to purchase two or more lids to go side by side across the top of the tank. Some brands offer a 2-pack for this purpose. Measure the length and width of your tank regardless of gallon size, as they can vary depending on the other dimensions. Standard sizes are usually 20 inches, 24 inches and 30 inches, while larger hoods are 48 inches or more for tanks 55 gallons and up. Designed for aquariums of every size, our hoods and canopies deliver the perfect blend of light and protection – and with their clean lines, they'll look equally spectacular in your space.
