Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Platy Platies are very very peaceful fish. They won't hurt a fly. The color variations are so endless. It is so wonderful. If you look hard enough you can always find a uniqueness about your platy. They breed often and have large amounts of fry. They can hold onto reproductive cells from males for 6 months even getting pregnant off of it multiple times. Another cool thing about platies is that they can breed with many many livebearers. The easiest cross breed is swordtails. They breed with swordtails like they are their own kind at times! In fact most of these awesome color combinations are due to the fact that the platies you see in stores have had many ancestor swordtails, and vice versa. They accept dried food very well and most of the time they are energetic. As a small community fish it is not a good idea to keep with larger aggressive fish like cichlids. Buy platies if you wish to have a freshwater tropical community tank with a lot of color and a small footprint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fish! Everything! I love everything about this fish. Sometimes I "pet" my fish by just touching them, and she gladly comes up to see me. The red wag platy stalks her a lot, but she's VERY fierce with him when she needs to be alone. One complaint, though. I went to get some SUN BURST platies, but instead I got 2 red wags and 1 redtailed black variatus. But I'm very happy I got Ora, my platy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool Fish These platies have made it to my aquarium and I absolutely love them. I have one male and I love how his scales are black and at certain angles they look like a metallic green. He once bred with a different female and the offspring came out with his unique black/metallic green scales. They are so easy to keep alive and never cause any problems. They get along with other non aggressive fish and they are are good species for starters. Just a little hint, their colors are more intensified if the aquarium has dark gravel because it will really exaggerate their colors and make them look more vibrant and beautiful.
