The neon swordtail is much more brightly colored than the wild type of this species. They also lack the dark spots found in some varieties. Neon swordtails look most similar to the pineapple swordtail, with light colored bodies. However, neon swordtails possess more iridescence in their body than any other variety of swordtail, while wild type swordtails can grow to 4 inches, most selectively bred varieties stay smaller.
