Help improve your pet's quality of life if he/she suffers from intra-ocular pressure (glaucoma) by using Methazolamide Tablets!

What is Methazolamide Tablets? Veterinarian's prescribe Methazolamide tablets for Glaucoma caused by increased pressure in the eye that, over time, can damage the optic nerve and cause blindness.

What are the benefits of Methazolamide Tablets?
  • Treats glaucoma in dogs.
  • Reduces pressure in the eye.
  • Small, easy to dose tablets.
  • Formulated for:dogs

How is this medication given? Methazolamide Tablets are given orally.

Always speak to your veterinarian if you have questions about how to give this medication.

How does this medication work? The carbonic anhydrase inhibitors act by a noncompetitive, reversible inhibition of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase. This reduces the formation of hydrogen and bicarbonate ions from carbon dioxide and reduces the availability of these ions for active transport into body secretions.

What form(s) does Methazolamide Tablets come in? tablets.

    Generic Name:Methazolamide

Dose and Administration:Methazolamide Tablets is given by mouth with or without food. Follow your veterinarian’s exact instructions.

Do not stop this medication or change your pet’s dosage without consulting with your veterinarian.

If a dose is missed, give it as soon as you remember but do not give 2 doses at once.

Only give Methazolamide Tablets to the pet it has been prescribed for.

Uses: If your veterinarian diagnoses your dog with glaucoma, she may prescribe Methazolamide Tablets to slow the disease, as a preparation for surgery, or to prevent or delay the onset of the disease in the healthy eye. This medication, a type of carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, works by lowering pressure in the eye, called “intraocular pressure,” caused by increased fluid produced in the eye.

Possible Side Effects: Adverse reactions, occurring most often early in therapy, include paresthesias, particularly a “tingling” feeling in the extremities; hearing dysfunction or tinnitus; fatigue; malaise; loss of appetite; taste alteration; gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea; polyuria; and occasional instances of drowsiness and confusion.

Other occasional adverse reactions include urticaria, melena, hematuria, glycosuria, hepatic insufficiency, flaccid paralysis, photosensitivity, convulsions, and, rarely, crystalluria and renal calculi..

Other side effects are possible. Contact your veterinarian at once if your pet is acting ill in any way after taking Methazolamide Tablets.

Drug and Food Interactions: Methazolamide should be used with caution in patients on steroid therapy because of the potential for developing hypokalemia. Caution is advised for patients receiving high-dose aspirin and methazolamide concomitantly, as anorexia, tachypnea, lethargy, coma and death have been reported with concomitant use of high-dose aspirin and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

Precautions: Potassium excretion is increased initially upon administration of methazolamide and in patients with cirrhosis or hepatic insufficiency could precipitate a hepatic coma. In patients with pulmonary obstruction or emphysema, where alveolar ventilation may be impaired methazolamide should be used with caution because it may precipitate or aggravate acidosis.

Storage:Store at room temperature out of reach from children and pets.

A prescription from your veterinarian is required to purchase Methazolamide Tablets.
