Rated 1 out of 5 by from Made my dogs sick We bought this to replace the product we're using because PetSmart had a great deal on it. Specifically chose Max for biting flies which we have issue with. Shortly after applying to the pups (10 yr old and 9 yr old Jack Russel Terriers- NOT related) both pups were sick. They are 16 & 14lbs, so used the one for medium sized dogs. They were coughing, sneezing, and wheezing. I washed them and gave them antihistamine (per recommendation). Four days later and they are better, but still coughing occasionally. Was a very scary weekend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works like a charm I got this for free for my honest opinion and I have been telling everyone how well it works between this and petlocks shampoo I have seen a flea on my dog yet I I hope to keep it that way. This works way better than the stuff from the vet and it is cheaper.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AWFUL product- disappointing all around :( Being that we had such a mild winter this year, the ticks in VA are particularly bad this season! Our lab/pit mix got his first tick in December and had two more since then, despite the treatments we gave. We bought Petlock Max, eager to try a new brand and *hopefully* stop picking ticks off our poor pup, Jonah. Unfortunately we were VERY disappointed. First (and less importantly), the product is by far the WORST smelling one we have ever come across; the smell is reminiscent of rotting vegetables, and stank up our entire house. It bothered our pup a LOT- he was miserable for 12 hours and wouldn't eat a thing. Petlock also can cause some rough tummy side effects we read on the label- and boy did it! Jonah's stomach was turning all night, LOUDLY; he lost his appetite and was very depressed. Another issue was that the product is very toxic- much more so than any other one we've used. It's especially for dangerous for cats, requiring us to quarantine our foster cat from Jonah for 24 hours). While all of this was a major inconvenience, I literally told my husband, "I can totally deal with the smell, side effects and the toxicity if the product turns out to be EFFECTIVE." Low and behold, it most certainly is not. After all the drama, our dog literally had a tick a day later. We called the vet and asked for tips, explaining our situation. They strongly advised against Petlock, saying it virtually has zero efficacy, that we unfortunately wasted our $40.00, and that they recommend we try Nexxguard chews. I'm not trying to be rude or harsh-we really were hoping Petlock would work out, but it just didn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ***RE-SEARCH AND DESTROY!!*** Summer seems to have come early in South Central Texas this year. Austin is sweltering on most days already and the fleas have taken advantage of it. Before I knew it my normally pest free house was TOTALLY INFESTED!!! Being that Flea control was not something I have to deal with having indoor cats and an indoor 50ish pound Shepherd/Husky mix.. In past years I've had to buy a round of meds at Emancipet for the kids but it's never been a real issue... until this year. I noticed it was getting worse and put the task on my "to-do" list but thought it wasn't highest priority... Until I came home one Saturday morning and my poor dog "Faith" was constantly scratching and almost couldn't get comfortable at all.. The look on her face was of terror and I knew that I had to do something and the sooner the better. A couple hours later I left the house to pick up my wife from work and we drove straight to the pet supply store. I had spent all day reading reviews of the 5 or 6 major brands on the market and I wanted to get the strongest medication but I wanted to be sure that my babies were all safe, healthy and happy during and after administration. I read lots of reviews and the brands I had used before all received pretty fair reviews and I knew they could do the job when it came to maintenance but this was a special case and I wanted to make sure I got something that could handle maintenance and tackle the problem already at hand in our home. I took one last look on my phone to see what the verdict was on PetLock (I remembered it got higher reviews but I could not remember exactly, all I knew was that it was a name I was unfamiliar with). The site I had been using to get info gathers reviews from all over the internet so the thousand plus reviews for PetLock were overwhelmingly positive. The price at the pet supply store I was at seemed to be a little higher than the common prices I found advertised elsewhere and not near as low as I could find on the internet but I couldn't let my babies go another minute without relief... Soooooo.. To make this already LONG STORY short: Faith was feeling relief from the overwhelming crop of fleas that had latched onto her within about an hour and a half. While we tackled the other animals with their flea meds Faith laid out on an old off white sheet we had put down for her. When she finally got up and moved the sheet was speckled with the casualties of the Saturday Flea Massacre at Austin Texas. The number of fleas that just FELL off her was unbelievable so imagine what the whole crop must have looked like. It must have been flea Tokyo under that thick fur she carries around. Afterward all I could do was apologize to my poor animals and promise that it would never happen again..PetLock has kept my pup flea free for a solid month now and it took care of the initial infiltration like an atomic blast.. She experienced ZERO side effects (which is the highest of priorities in my book) and has been able to live her life care free and without the annoyance of a single parasite since... I've already made sure that PetLock is a part of my monthly routine. I will never go 32 days without my pups dose of PetLock Max. I would recommend this to anyone with furry friends that they love like family.
