A cage made of metal is best for rats because they are unable to chew through it. Make sure it is a cage made specifically for rats so that it is safe for them long-term.

 

 

The more room the better. If you have 2 rats, then make sure to get them a cage that is at least double the suggested size for one rat. The size you need may be different depending on the type of pet rat you have.

 

 

The more space the better so your pet rat has room to explore and adventure. Some rats are bigger and need bigger cages. In general, the minimum size of a pet rat cage should be around 2-3 cubic feet.
