How is Medication Given?
Administer by combining the horse's daily dose as a concentrate, or top-dress it on ground or rolled grain. For adequate adhesion, moisten grain slightly using a liquid supplement or water. Recommended initial dosage rate is 0.5 mg to 3 mg T4 (Levothyroxine Sodium) for every 100 pounds of body weight administered once daily or given in divided doses. Clinical evaluation of the horse's response to treatment should take place until a proper maintenance dosage rate has been established. Typically, daily T4 dosage rate ranges from 6 mg to 36 mg. Because Serum T4 and T-3 levels can differ widely between thyroid-supplemented horses, each horse should receive an individualized dose and be monitored on a daily basis for signs of hypersensitivity or hyperthyroidism. Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product.
