    How is Medication Given? Dosing Recommendations:
    Dosage of 4 mcg per kg/Dosage of 2 mcg per kg/Horse's Weight

  • 1 Tablet/0.5 Tablet/300 to 749 Pounds
  • 2 Tablets/1 Tablet/750 to 1249 Pounds
  • 3 Tablets/1.5 Tablets/1250 to 1749 Pounds
  • 4 Tablets/2 Tablets/1750 to 2249 Pounds
  • Recommended initial dose is 2 mcg per kg of body weight administered one time each day.
  • Adjust dosage to obtain desired effect.
  • Do not exceed a dosage rate of 4 mcg per kg of body weight.
  • Do not crush. Human exposure can be dangerous.
  • These scored tablets shouldbe used to administer a calculated dose to the closest half-tablet.
  • Titrate in accordance to the desired response to administer the lowest possible dose. This should be determined by the clinical signs caused by PPID and/or endocrine test normalization or improvement.
  • If the horse shows signs of intolerance, decrease the dose by 50% for a 3-to-5-day period, then titrate up in increments of 2 mcg per kg every 2 weeks to achieve desired effect.

    What Results Can I Expect? Prascend is used to treat Cushing's syndrome (pituitary intermedia dysfunction). It's the first and only drug approved by the FDA for this purpose. and it reduces symptoms like unusual fat deposits and abnormal hair coat.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Tablet

    Dose and Administration: Sold in 60-count or 120-count bottles in a tablet strength of 1 mg.

    Possible Side Effects: The following adverse reactions have occurred in some horses: Decreased Appetite, Lameness, Diarrhea/Loose Stools, Colic, Lethargy, Unexpected Weight Loss, Laminitis, Heart Murmur, Tooth Disorders, Skin Abscesses, Musculoskeletal Pain, Behavioral Changes

    Precautions Never crush Prascend, as human exposure poses risks. Instead, the tablets should be dissolved in water, then administered with a syringe into the horse's mouth or top dressed onto feed. Undissolved tablets may also be fed in an apple or another treat.

    Storage Recommendations: Keep temperature below 25 degrees C (77 degrees F).
