    DESCRIPTION:

    Regu-Mate Solution is used for estrus suppression of mares. Estrus suppression is helpful because it makes estrus predictable after medication withdrawal.

    IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: REGU-MATE (altrenogest) is contraindicated for use in mares having a previous or current history of uterine inflammation. Natural or synthetic gestagen therapy may exacerbate existing low-grade or 'smoldering' uterine inflammation in a fulminating uterine infection in some instances. Direct contact with skin must be avoided and protective gloves must be worn when handling this product. Pregnant women or women who suspect they are pregnant should not handle REGU-MATE. Women of childbearing age should exercise extreme caution when handling this product as it is readily absorbed through skin and could lead to disruption of the menstrual cycle or prolongation of pregnancy. Direct contact with the skin should therefore be avoided. Accidental spillage on the skin should be washed off immediately with soap and water. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption. For complete safety information, please read the label.

    How is Medication Given?

  • Directions: 1) Wear gloves to remove the shipping cap and the seal. 2) Replace the shipping cap with the dispensing cap (enclosed). 3) Take the cover off of the dispensing tip, then connect a syringe (luer lock with no needle). 4) Withdraw the correct amount of solution, taking care not to remove the syringe with the bottle inverted to prevent spillage. 5) Disconnect the syringe and orally administer the solution. You may directly administer this product at the base of your mare's tongue, or you may opt to administer it inher daily ration of grain. 6) To avoid leakage, place the cover back on the dispensing tip. 7) Replace the syringe periodically. Excessive syringe use can cause sticking.

  • As indicated above, dosing recommendations are 0.044 mg per kg (1 mL for every 110 pounds) of body weight administered once per day for a 15-day period.

    What Results Can I Expect? This easy-to-administer solution reduces undesirable moods and behaviors in mares, and it also eliminates hormonal distraction.

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Liquid

    Dose and Administration: Each bottle contains 1 liter.

    Possible Side Effects: 5% of mares still went into heat, even after treatment. The most frequently reported adverse reaction is increase in genitalia.

    Precautions:

  • Review the package insert before use.
  • This product is absorbed readily when skin contact occurs. Because it is oil-based, it can also penetrate porous gloves. Impervious or rubber gloves are recommended because this product should not penetrate such materials. If there is leakage (via spillage, a pinhole, etc.), the contaminated area can experience increased absorption.
  • Keep away from children.
  • Only for oral administration to horses.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry location.
