How is Medication Given? Recommended oral dosage rate is 0.23 mg for every pound of body weight. Whole and half tablets may be needed for accurate dosing. These tablets are scored for easy dosing. Divide the daily dose into 2 separate doses. These two doses don't have to be exactly equal, but together, they should equal the daily recommended dosage rate. Administer at approximately 12-hour intervals. You may hide the medication in a treat or pill pocket if your dog tends to be picky and difficult to dose. Follow your veterinarian' directions when using this product.
What Results Can I Expect? Vetmedin is made for dogs with congestive heart failure and/or heart disease. It is used to extend the life expectancy and quality of life of dogs with these conditions, and it is useful in cases caused by atrioventricular valvular insufficiency or dilated cardiomyopathy. The delicious, beef-flavored, chewable formula is administered twice daily.
What Form Does Medication Come In? Chewable Tablet
Dose and Administration: Sold as a 50-count bottle or a 2-pack of 50-count bottles (for 100 total tablets) in strengths of 1.25 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, or 10 mg.
Possible Side Effects: Potential side effects include: Inappetence, Shortness of Breath, Weakness, Ataxia, Diarrhea, Lethargy, and Anorexia. If you believe your dog is experiencing a side effect, consult your veterinarian.
Precautions Only for use in dogs with congestive heart failure (and related symptoms). Do not administer to humans. Keep out of reach of children. Pursue medical treatment upon accidental ingestion. Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product. Not proven safe for puppies under 6 months old, breeding dogs, pregnant dogs, or lactating dogs.
Storage Recommendations: Keep product at room temperature between 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Brief excursions of 15-30 degrees C (59- 8 degrees F) are permitted.
