How is Medication Given?
Doxycycline is available over-the-counter in 100 mg capsules or tablets. Typical recommended dosage rate for a dog is 2 mg to 5 mg for every pound of body weight administered at 12- to 24-hour intervals. Administer exactly as prescribed. Never administer a different dosage rate or administer for longer than prescribed. If you feel that your pet's infection is unresolved, be sure to consult the prescribing veterinarian. Do not discontinue use before the full course of treatmentis complete. Symptom improvement does not indicate that the infection is resolved. Ensure constant access to water for any pet taking this medication. Never allow treated pets to consume dairy or milk products. This can hinder antibiotic absorption. If you accidentally miss giving a dose, administer it as soon as you remember. If the next regularly scheduled dose is due soon, resume the regular schedule and skip the dose you missed. Never administer two doses simultaneously.
