Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best HOB filter you can buy I purchased an aquaclear 70 from petsmart a few months ago and I decided to add another one to my 55 gallon fancy goldfish tank. The first one I purchased in store and the second one I purchased online. I high recommend this filter. My main reason for leaving a review is because I received great customer service through Petsmart.com. The filter I had originally ordered ended up being damaged. I did not realize this until I set everything up and turned it on to find that the filter was cracked and leaking. I called customer care and they shipped me a replacement filter with overnight shipping!! I received it in about 3 business days. I also did not have to reship the damaged item back...How great is that? Thank you Petsmart for providing great customer service in store and online.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Power Filter On The Market There are so many reasons to love this filter! This is not your traditional power filter that takes cartridges. Instead, it has a media basket with layers, in many ways like a cannister filter. The bottom layer is a sponge, the middle layer is usually a bag of carbon and the top layer is some kind of biological media. Here's the great thing about this filter. You can use any media you want! So, I always use the sponge on the bottom layer for mechanical filtration. The sponge lasts FOREVER. I've been using the same sponge for years, just rinsing and reusing and it works just fine. The carbon layer.. you can buy and media bag you want and pack it with carbon, or peat (if you need acidify for angels or discus), or carbon (for african cichlids). You can even shove some purigen in there. The choices are endless. Same witht the top layer. It comes with their Biomax media. But you just get a media bag and use whatever you want. For a hang on back power filter, this thing is extremely versatile. And it doesn't force you into buying the manufacturer's cartridges over and over again. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter I have this filter running on my 36g setup with a Marineland Penguin 200 and this filter is great! I have to say that this is my favorite. My water was always sort of cloudy but I thought that that was as clean as it gets. Then I got this filter (the 50g version) and my water was so clean! I love that you can customize the media in this and that it is small on the back of the tank. This is the best HOB filter there is so pay a little extra money and get the good quality stuff. Get this filter and you won't regret it. :0)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best power filter ever There is not a better power filter on the market After using several different power filters on my 20 gallon aquariumThis is the quietest Most low cost maintenance filter I have ever hadAnd does a fantastic job Only have to change out The charcoal filter media once a month Which cost me around a dollar fiftyIt has paid for itself in 6 months

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great I have been using a pair of 110 filters on my 150 gal tank for over seven years and have not had any issues. Only recently have I had to replace one of the filters. I have never had any issues with any of the Aqua Clear filters of any size. I have tried other brands and they just don't stack up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product, Worth the Money This product is amazing. Keeps the water looking clean without having to spend gobs of money on media replacements, as you only need to replace one part of the media at a time. In addition, you can adjust how much water the filter spits out without compromising the noise level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This filter is a must for anyone new to the hobby. I have the aquaclear 30 on my 20 gallon high tank. It is quiet and keeps my tank clean and crystal clear. I have owned this filter for one year and the only maintenance is to make sure to clean the impeller and the shaft. I use qtips to reach inside the housing area to clean out any yuck. It tends to slow your water flow if you don't. In my basket I use the sponge in the bottom of the basket, and two bags of the biomax for more surface area for the bacteria to grow. I only use the carbon after medicating. I clean my sponge bi monthly just a quick swish in the bucket with old aquarium water. I will soon be switching to a 36gal aqueon bow front and I guarantee it will have an aqua clear on it as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased the 30 gallon filter for my ten gallon betta tank. His water was dirty looking and smelled bad and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to look clean. I bought this particular filter after lots of internet research. It had the best reviews and seemed to be of the best quality. For the price, the Fluval is a great filter with inexpensive filter media. My water is crystal clear and does not smell anymore. The only problem I have with the filter is that occasionally it gets a little loud. The lid on top of the filter rattles. If you hit the top it will stop or if you just take the lid off. So a very minor complaint for an overall great filter! I have seen other reviews saying that the filter has broken down over time but I have not had any problems yet.

How wide is it? What are the dimensions? How deep does the suction intake go? I have a 35 gallon hex and each side is 1 foot and it's 2 feet deep.

Can I use the smallest one for a 5 gallon betta tank

Asked by: Sad emo wit a snek
Their smallest model is the Aquaclear 20, rated at 100 gallons per hour. That would turn over the water in a 5 gallon tank, 20 times per hour. That is a lot of flow for a small tank and for a type of fish that does not need large currents of water.

I am think of getting this filter system and was wondering How often do you have to change sponge carbon and the bio max?

    Asked by: Care123
The carbon should be replaced every 3-4 weeks because it exhausts itself rather quickly and can't be recharged no matter what others say. Biomax should never have tobe replaced unless it's literally disintegrating.

Can I put the 70 on my 20 gal tank it fits is the flow adjustable

    Asked by: Joann54
I had my Aquaclear 70 on my cycles 20 gallon tank for about a month before moving it to my 75 gallon tank (in conjunction with an AQ110). I replaced it with an AQ 30. The AQ 70 with 300gph has too much flow for a 20 gallon tank in my opinion. If you reduce the flow on the 70, you might as well run the AQ 50 instead. I would run the AQ 50 as the largest single filter for an aquarium that size. I use the AQ 30 + a modified Top Fin 20 on the 20 gallon tank. Crystal clear water and perfect ammo/nitrite/nitrate levels.

CAn i Use this type of filter in my 55 gallon tank for my red ear slider turtle?

    Asked by: Mwestobar
I would go with the Aquaclear 70 or 110 for a turtle in a 55 gallon tank. I own the 30, 70 and 110. They are the best HOB style filters on the market. Run a prefilter on the intake tube. Good luck
