PetSafe® In-Ground Dog Fence is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best investments I have ever made In the past we have had outside dogs that were either in a kennel or on a chain. I always felt like this would cruel to the dog. Their interaction with the family was limited. The problem was that once they were off the chain or out of the kennel they would run. When I agreed to get another puppy I wanted to make sure that it would be able to enjoy the entire 2 acres. This system has been a god send. I can let him out and not worry that he will take off. I can also work out in my barn and not have to keep looking out to see that his is still in the yard. He actually interacts with the family more and this seems to make him happier.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works fine - except for the wire I purchased and installed this system a few years ago. We spent the time training our dog and it worked perfectly for about 2 years. Then we would intermittently get alarms that the wire was broken. When checking the fence with an ohm meter, sometimes it would be an open circuit, sometimes not. I purchased a break detector and it detected no breaks, but after checking it, the fence would start working again. Long story short, the wire they include in the kit is not rated for use underground and after a couple years, the insulation degrades and the wire starts corroding, developing small micro cracks. We finally ended up paying Hidden Fence to bury a new wire - now the system is working perfectly again. Bottom line - the fence system and collar works well, but pay some extra money and get appropriate wire - you'll be happy you did in the long run.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this fence I have installed a similar fence previously so I knew to install exactly as directed in the booklet. Yes, it took over a holiday weekend, but it works perfectly and the 2 puppies have accepted it well. I had to kick up the correction level immediately, but after only one week, they are running the perimeter off leash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life changer! I installed this system 1 year ago to contain my 5 dogs in my 5 acre lot. They range in size from a miniature dachshund to a 100 lb German Shepherd. Prior to this we had to walk our dogs on leashes multiple times a day. I also have a 1 acre sized pond that some of the dogs love to swim in so I needed something waterproof. A couple of my dogs would also take off and roam for miles if they got loose. Once I trained my dogs, this has been an absolute life changer. A couple of challenges with the system... I had to adjust the width of the boundary to no more than 6 feet because for some reason, my dogs would get shocked when crossing the buried power line to my house if I had it set any higher. When they were learning the boundary and would on occasion escape, I had to bring the other dogs in and turn off the fence because they would get shocked if they tried to come back within the boundary. Other than that, the system has worked well, the collars have held up with daily use for the past year and I've had no issues even when they go swimming.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Waterproof We just purchase a pet safe in ground fence for our dogs. We are just wondering if the wires are waterproof and/or safe to be left above ground due to storms in our area approaching this season.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to install not a big shock though I purchased this In-Ground Fence and installed it in one day. I did rent a trencher to make it easier. We have a little over 1/3 of an acre and spliced in the second roll easily to finish the yard after the first roll of wire was finished. The only problem is the amount of shock the fence emits. We had a wireless PetSafe fence that produced a much stronger shock. With the wireless fence when I tested it on level 3 or above I dropped the collar from the shock. With this fence I have it on the highest level there is not a strong shock. We have a 10 pound dog and when she wants she runs right through it. If it does increase the shock level when they are running it does not increase much.Example: I bought this a month ago and am so happy that I did...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Collar is Not sturdy Disappointed at this product. Collar is not sturdy enough. The buckle was broken in a couple of months. In a very snowy day my dog dropped it somewhere and escaped. The system from time to time gave noisy alarm to inform me to check the system. I checked all connection and could not find any problem. I had to turn off the system for several days. If I turned it back on after several days, it worked. I put a lot of effort to set it up and to maintain it. But not sure if I should continue putting such effort. I have to purchase an extra collar to use this system but it's more expensive than I expected. Not sure if it worth that money and additional effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Freedom for everyone! We have two beagles. We adopted one at 8 weeks. That was an easy training session! We adopted Lucy from the Animal Rescue and she was already a year old. What were we going to do? We didn't have a clue about training this dog that seemed like she came from the Circus! In two days she was free to run the 3+ acres we fenced! It is so amazing we installed a fence over 6 acres at our vacation home. We didn't even do any training there - both dogs understood the fence immediately when we walked then toward the line and they heard the tone. Our lives would be totally different without the fence and both our dogs lives would be totally different without the fence. Thank you!

I have one area that I cannot bury the wire as it is on asphalt. Is there a way to set up the wire without burying it? Is there some sort of cover I can place over it?

Asked by: Jenbabyrn
This is a great question! If possible, we recommend placing the wire in an expansion joint in the asphalt or driveway. Should this not be an option we would recommend a cable protector that is strong enough to be driven over which can typically be found at hardware stores. For further installation questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-732-2677.

if I have the pet safe wireless system with the wireless collars and now want to use the in ground fence, will those same collars work with that system or will I need to buy new collars as well?

Asked by: Tams1121
Thank you for your question! Due to the different technologies and methods of activation the two types of systems use, wireless equipment and in-ground fence equipment is not cross-compatible.

Does the collar emit a tone before correction? If so, can the collar be set to tone only for initial training?

Asked by: Mrdigital
This is an outstanding question! The PetSafe® In-Ground Dog Fence receiver collar will provide a warning tone to let your dog know that if they continue on that area a correction will be provided. The collar has a tone only mode that will be used the first few days of the training process that we have laid out within the owners manual. For any training questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677.

Will this continue to shock the dog even if they have crossed the initial barrier?

Asked by: adougher
Hi there, thank you for your question! The collar for this model will give the warning tone for 20% of the correction area, and then deliver stimulation for the other 80%. It has a 30 second safety timeout, and will shut off after this time has lapsed. If your dog leaves the containment area, and then tried to come back through, the same sequence will happen.
