Species: Green Cheek Conure
Normal Pet Size at Maturity: Conures can range in size depending on the variety. Green-cheek conures average around 10", whereas Sun conures average around 15" (38 cm) from head to end of tail.
Average Lifespan: Conures can live as long as 20 years.
Basic Diet: For detailed feeding information, check out the What Do Pet Birds Eat? article in our learning page! A Conure's main source of nutrition comes from pelleted food. Remove old pellets and replace with fresh pellets daily. Keep your conure's food bowl three-quarters full. Offering fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains every day will help provide a well-rounded and interesting diet to keep your bird healthy. To keep your conure in the best shape, limit treats such as nuts, seed, and millet sticks to twice per month. Never feed your bird chocolate, sugar, fried foods, avocado, or human junk food. These foods can make your bird very sick.

- Every Conure needs an enclosure, recommended size 32"x 23"x 36" or larger
- Your feathered friend also need a bowl for pelleted and fresh food, a water bottle or bowl for drinking, a misting bottle and/or bird bath
- A minimum of 2 perches in different thickness & heights
- A ladder perch
- Habitat liner(s)and a habitat cover
- Toys such as puzzles, chews, cuttlebones, and foraging items
Does this Pet Need a Roommate? Conures are social and full of personality. They are flock-oriented birds, and typically do well with other birds in the home. However, they consider their humans to be equally part of the flock and will happily spend their days as an only bird-child with you.
Minimum Enclosure Size: The minimum enclosure size is 20"x20"x30", but it's recommended to have an enclosure 32"x23"x36" or larger. If housing multiple birds, increase the enclosure size accordingly.
Safety Tips for You and Your Pet: It is recommended to closely monitor any new pet for 30 days in their own enclosure to observe signs of illness, prevent the spread of potential diseases, and to limit stress while your pet acclimates to their new home. All new pets should be seen by a veterinarian within 14 days of purchase to establish care and discuss a health and wellness plan. All animals can potentially carry viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases contagious to humans. Thoroughly wash your hands with warm, soapy water before and after contact with any pet or its habitat. Adults should assist children with hand washing after contact with a pet or its enclosure. Use caution when handling pets, and remember they may bite or scratch, especially when stressed.

When to Contact a Veterinarian: In addition to regularly scheduled appointments, contact your avian veterinarian if you notice the following signs:
- long periods sitting at the bottom of the enclosure
- decreased appetite or weight loss
- less activity and grooming feathers fluffed for long periods of time
- sneezing; discharge from eyes, nose or mouth
- runny droppings for more than two days
- constantly plucking feathers or feathers are falling out
- beak over gown⁄ not closing normally
