Leopard geckos are insectivores and eat live insects, like "gut loaded" (feed the insects a special supplement so they have extra nutrients) crickets, mealworms or waxworms. They are nocturnal which means that they sleep during the day and are active at night. Leopard geckos are healthiest and happiest living alone.

Things to remember

Give your pet 3-4 days to adjust to his new surroundings, then try holding him for short amounts of time. Take care to never handle him by the tail - it could break off.

Feeding amounts & frequency
Feed juveniles twice a day; adults 3-4 times a week - offer an amount that can be consumed within four hours.

Provide drinking water in a shallow dish and change it daily.

Use a 10-gallon or larger glass terrarium with a screen lid for proper ventilation.

Line the home with reptile carpet.Clean out waste weekly and change bedding at least once a month.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best pet ever I just got my babies yesterday (9/8/12) and they are so awesome!!! I think I got a boy and a girl but, they are too young to tell. One is all freckley and one is a little bit striped. I am already so attached to them. Their tank is a 10 gallon tank. I had 2 hides a little cave and a tree. I named one Sly and one Shy. When they are young, they cant have sand in their tank because, when they are catching the crickets they can swallow sand and get backed up so we had to get cage carpet. I would totally reccomend a leopard gecko to any one from 8 - unlimited. The pet smart we got them at only charged $ 20.00 for them (under priced). They love being held you just have to be careful to not squeeze them too much because their tail can fall off. Leopard geckos are very cute and great pets!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awsome pet I got Simon a couple of weeks ago, and i love him he is the perfect pet for people of all ages. The second day i got him i put him on my hand he just walked on my shoulder and arms very calmly. If you are getting a Leopard Gecko you need to get a critter keeper for the crickets he/she eats. I would recommend a Leopard Gecko to anyone who wants a reptile

How big do they get? Can you buy a male, or female?

Asked by: rab feet
Females can get from 7-10 inches and males usually get up to 10. You can tell if a leo is male or female by if it has a bump near the base of its tail or not. If it has a bump, it's probably a male.

How much is it for everything the cage the gecko the sand the decorations

Asked by: Morse
It is preferred to get a 20 gallon for an adult. Requirements are 3 hides: 1 cool, 1 moist, and 1 hot. They do not bask so there is no need for a basking spot. Do not use any substrate (flooring) that can cause them to swallow, such as calcium sand (big no no), wood chips, and any other small dangerous edibles as it can cause their stomach to impaction. Use reptile carpet or if you're cheap, paper towels are excellent alternatives as they're easy to clean and replace. You will need to have a heat pad as they sense through their stomachs. They don't bask, so there's no need any heating lamp, and lamps can really damage their sensible eyelids. You also need a water dish and a mealworm dish. And last thing is a thermometer and just in case, a hydrometer to see how moist your tank is.  Depending on what supplies you get, it should cost no more than $100.
