About this item
DESCRIPTION:

Estrumate is an injectable Cloprostenol Sodium solution for intramuscular administration. It induces luteolysis with its luteolytic properties. It is used to manipulate estrus, allowing for pregnancy termination after mismating, treatment of prolonged luteal function conditions, and herd management compliance.

Key Benefits:

  • Cloprostenol Sodium induces functional and morphological regression of the corpus luteum.
  • In normal cycling, non-pregnant animals, this corpus luteum action usually induces estrus within 2-5 days post-treatment.
  • For animals with prolonged luteal function (pyometra), mummified fetus, or luteal cysts, luteolysis induction usually resolves the issue and brings cyclicity.
  • Depending on the stage of gestation, it can cause pregnant animals to abort.

Formulated For: For dairy cattle and beef cattle use only

    How is Medication Given?

  • Never puncture the stopper in excess of 12 times.
  • Administer intramuscularly at a rate of 2 mL (500 mcg Closprostenol) to dairy or beef cattle.
  • Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product.

What Results Can I Expect? Estrumate treats certain conditions associated with prolonged luteal function, and it controls estrus in beef and dairy cattle.

What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable

Dose and Administration: Sold in a vial containing 10 doses (20 mL) or 50 doses (100 mL).

    Possible Side Effects:

  • Never administer to a pregnant animal, as abortion may result.
  • Certain cattle experienced minor reactions when given 50 to 100 times the recommended dose. These include increased uneasiness, minor frothing, or milk letdown.

    Precautions

  • Only for animal use.
  • Handle with care if you are pregnant, of childbearing age, or have a bronchial or respiratory condition like asthma.
  • This medication absorbs into the skin readily, which may cause abortion or bronchospasm.
  • Direct contact with the skin should be avoided, and accidental spillage should be washed off the skin immediately with soap and water.
  • Conception rates may be lower than expected in fixed time breeding programs that omit second inseminations (when insemination occurs at or around 96 hours).
  • This is especially true when fixed time insemination occurs after one Estrumate injection.
  • No effect is seen in fertility after 1 or 2 doses when breeding occurs with estrus induced at 72 and 96 hours post-treatment.
  • This (and any other) parenteral product requires strict aseptic technique to prevent bacterial infection development after injection.
  • If you observe any signs of an infection, antibiotics should be used right away.

Storage Recommendations: Store in a dry and cool environment. Keep stored in container. Shield from light. Use within 28 days after first use.

In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency animal hospital. You can also call Merck Animal Health Pharmacovigilance: Livestock Technical Services, 800-211-3573 for more information.
