    About this item
    DESCRIPTION:

Oxytocin induces labor in animals with weak or no contractions. It is used to enhance uterine contractions during delivery, and it can also help expel remaining placental material.

Key Benefits: This versatile preparation can be used for many obstetrical purposes, such as :

  • Precipitation of labor
  • Acceleration of parturition
  • Evacuation of postpartum uterine debris
  • Contraction of the uterus after a c-section
  • Control of hemorrhages in the uterus
  • Contraction of the smooth cells within the mammary glands, which induces let-down of milk in cows and pigs
  • Prevention of development of metritis

Formulated For: Intended for cows, pigs, and horses.

    How is Medication Given?

  • When using for the purpose of milk letdown, administer 1/2 mL-1 mL for cows and 1/4 mL-1 mL for sows.
  • When using for obstetrical purposes, administer 5 mL for cows or horses and 1 1/2 mL-2 1/2 mL for sows.

What Results Can I Expect? Oxytocin helps the body expel residual placenta, which may be left behind in an animal's uterus following delivery. It can also be used to enhance uterine contractions during delivery.

What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable

Dose and Administration: Sold in a 3.4-ounce (100 mL) bottle.

Possible Side Effects: Oxytocin can be safe and effective when administered as prescribed. However, side effects may still occur. Monitor the animal for such effects.
