GastroGard is an oral paste that works to prevent and treat gastric ulcers. With the active ingredient Omeprazole, this orally-administered medication is made for daily use.
Key Benefits: GastroGard goes to work right at the source of acid production. It has a short-term neutralizing effect on acid, either in the stomach lumen or at the mucous membrane barrier. It inhibits the proton pump (which produces stomach acid), blocking the secretion of gastric acid of all causes.
Formulated For: Intended for foals aged 4 weeks and older (600 lbs or more) and horses.
How is Medication Given? 1) Remove the syringe tip cover. 2) Ensure that there is no food in the horse's mouth and insert syringe between the horse's teeth. 3) Depress plunger until it stops (by the ring). This should deposit the dose at deep in the pouch of the cheek or at the back of his or her tongue. 4) Repeat daily for 28 days or less. 5) Ensure that the full dose is consumed. 6) Briefly observe the animal to be sure none of the dose is rejected or lost. If any is lost, re-dose. 7) If the syringe has not been completely emptied, reuse until empty. Always replace cap following use. For ulcer recurrence prevention, set the plunger of the syringe to the weight marking that corresponds with half of your horse's body weight. For a full treatment, set the plunger of the syringe to the weight that corresponds with the horse's full body weight. To prevent gastric ulcer recurrence, every weight marking will provide a sufficient dose to treat 500 pounds of body weight. To treat gastric ulcers, every weight marking will provide a sufficient dose to treat 250 pounds of body weight. For use in foals 4 weeks and up, as well as adult horses. Contains Omeprazole (37% W/W) in a syringe with adjustable dose. One syringe provides 2.28 grams of Omeprazole. Each syringe is pre-calibrated to correspond with the horse's body weight, and they come in abox of 14, 28, or 72 syringes.
