DESCRIPTION: Spectramast LC Lactating Cow Formula is an intramammary, sterile suspension containing Ceftiofur to treat clinical mastitis associated with Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci, Streptococcus Dysgalactiae, and Escherichia Coli, and subclinical mastitis associated with Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci or Streptococcus Dysgalactiae in lactating dairy cattle.
Key Benefits:
Ceftiofur is an antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against a number of pathogens. This cephalosporin drug inhibits cell wall synthesis. As a
beta-lactam antimicrobial, this medication enacts synthesis by interfering with peptidoglycan synthesis-causing enzymes. This causes cell lysis of the bacteria, leading to the bactericidal properties of this medication. It combats coagulase-negative staphylococci, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, and Escherichia coli.
Formulated For: For lactating dairy cattle use only
How is Medication Given?
Plastet Syringe offers a choice between full cannula insertion (traditional practice) or 1/8-inch cannula insertion (as suggested by the National Mastitis Council). For partial insertion, remove the red cannula and white end cap by pressing sideways. Insert the now-exposed white tip gently into the canal of the teat. Infuse product carefully. For full insertion, remove the white end cap by pulling directly upward. Insert the entire cannula into the canal of the teat. Infuse product carefully. The teat ends should be prepared by washing with a proper dairy antiseptic and water, then dried thoroughly and completely emptied of milk. An alcohol pad should be used to wipe the teat ends in all affected quarters, with a fresh wipe used for every teat. Administer wearing gloves. Choose full or partial insertion length, inserting the tip into the canal of the teat and pushing the plunger to dispense the entire syringe. Massage every quarter to distribute the medication throughout the milk cistern. Infuse a single syringe into every affected quarter, repeating daily for up to 8 days.

Only for lactating dairy cattle with mastitis caused by certain pathogens. A positive culture or specific pathogen testing, along with a veterinarian exam, should be performed to accurately determine a diagnosis. Cows who have systemic clinical signs associated with mastitis will require approprite therapies, as determined by your vet. After successful treatments, reinfection could occur unless good herd management, sanitation, and mechanical safety practiced are adhered to. Affected cows should be observed to prevent recurrence or spread to other animals. Sensitized individuals could have an allergic reaction to Penicillins and Cephalosporins. Topical Ceftiofur (and other antimicrobial) exposure could cause minor or severe allergic reactions in certain cases. Repeated or prolonged exposure may result in sensitization. Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes, mouth, or clothing. Prevent sensitization of the skin by handling only when wearing protective gloves. Avoid exposure if you have a known hypersensitivity to Penicillin or Cephalosporin. In case of accidental eye exposure, use water to flush for 15 minutes. In case of accidental skin exposure, use soap and water to wash. Remove contaminated clothing. If you observe symptoms of an allergic reaction, including skin rash, hives, or trouble breathing, pursue emergency treatment.
