    DESCRIPTION:

    Primidone Tablets are useful in controlling seizures. This medication is thought to work by altering the chemical impulses in the brain that cause seizures. In test subjects, it raised electroshock or chemo shock seizure thresholds or seizure patterns.

    Key Benefits:

  • Primidone converts to the anticonvulsant Phenobarbital when ingested.
  • From there, it begins decreasing nervous system nerve impulses, which helps reduce seizure activity.

    Formulated For: Intended mostly for dogs, however on rare occasion, its prescribed to cats.

    How is Medication Given?

  • Typical recommended dose for canine use is 2.3 mg to 6.8 mg per pound of body weight daily, divided into 2 to 3 daily doses.
  • This medication may be administered in conjunction with food.
  • Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product.
  • Ensure that your pet has constant access to water.

    What Results Can I Expect: Primidone:

  • Controls the severity and frequency of epileptic seizure activity
  • Reduces seizure activity FA11:FB11 associated with infections (including viral encephalitis or distemper)
  • Can be administered long-term

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in strengths of 250 mg.

    Possible Side Effects: Possible adverse reactions include:

  • Liver toxicity
  • Anxiety or agitation when treatment is initiated
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Increased appetite
  • Weight gain

    Precautions: If your dog has a condition like dehydration, anemia, Addison's disease, heart disease, kidney disease, or respiratory disease, administer with great caution.
