    About this item
    DESCRIPTION:

Piroxicam is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that is useful in treating certain cancers in dogs and cats. It is also sometimes used to treat osteoarthritis-related pain and inflammation.

    Key Benefits:

  • Piroxicam is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug).
  • This non-selective COX (cyclooxygenase inhibitor) has an inhibitory effect on both COX-1 and COX-2. COX-1 is responsible for the production of prostaglandins that regulate homeostasis and help the kidneys respond to hypotension and protect the gastrointestinal tract.
  • COX-2 is responsible for producing prostaglandins, which increase when inflammation is present.
  • This receptor is upregulated in the case of certain tumors, including nasal epithelial tumors, mammary tumors, oral melanoma, oral squamous cell carcinoma, colorectal tumors, prostatic carcinoma, TCC (urinary bladder transitional cell carcinoma), and osteosarcoma.

Formulated For: Intended for cats and dogs.
