Vetmedin (pimobendan oral solution) for Dogs, 1.5 mg/mL, 50 mL

Description: VETMEDIN™® Solution (pimobendan oral solution) is the only oral solution approved by the FDA to delay the onset of congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs with Stage B2 preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD), and management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe CHF in dogs due to clinical MMVD or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM.2,3,5 Given every 12 hours, its unique dual mode of action reduces the preload and afterload on the heart while improving contractility of the heart muscle.1 Pimobendan, the active ingredient in VETMEDIN™, reduces stress on the heart and increases cardiac output without raising oxygen or energy consumption. Increasing age is a risk factor for heart disease and heart failure.⁴ When used as directed, VETMEDIN™ is demonstrated to deliver delayed symptoms with preclinical disease, and improved quality of life and survival for dogs in heart

Indications or Uses: VETMEDIN™ Solution (pimobendan oral solution) is indicated for the management of the signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs due to clinical myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). VETMEDIN™ Solution is indicated for use with concurrent therapy for congestive heart failure (e.g., furosemide, etc.) as appropriate on a case-by-case basis.

General or Recommended Dosage: VETMEDIN™® Solution (pimobendan oral solution) should be administered directly in the mouth (orally) at a total daily dose of 0.23 mg⁄lb (0.5 mg⁄kg) body weight. Do not mix into food. The total daily dose should be divided into 2 equal portions administered approximately 12 hours apart (ie., morning and evening). The syringe is calibrated to deliver the appropriate morning or evening dose when drawn to the dog's nearest weight in pounds, each dose should be rounded up to the nearest 1 lb. increment. Do NOT shake the bottle before or after to avoid foaming.

Storage Instructions: Store at or below 77°F (25°C) with excursions permitted up to 86°F (30°C). Once the bottle is opened, use the contents within 8 weeks.

Potential Side Effects: The most common side effects are poor appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, shortness of breath, weakness, and ataxia (lack of muscle control and coordination). If side effects occur, consult your veterinarian. The safety of VETMEDIN™® has not been established in puppies younger than 6 months of age, or in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs.
