Inactive Ingredients: Silicon dioxide, sodium benzoate, sorbitol, glycerin, saccharin sodium, Xylitol*, sodium phosphate (monobasic, dihydrate), citric acid monohydrate, hydroxyethyl cellulose (2000 mPa.s at 1%). *According to the manufacturer, Metacam Oral Suspension contains a trace amount of Xylitol for sweetening and flavoring. When administered at the standard recommended dosage, there are no safety or toxicity concerns.
Usage: For additional information, please contact your veterinarian or refer to the full prescribing information provided in the manufacturer's package insert. Metacam Oral Suspension should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Shake well before each use. Metacam Oral Suspension can be given either mixed with food or placed directly into the mouth. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule. Manufacturer Dosage and Administration: Your veterinarian will carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of METACAM (meloxicam oral suspension) and other treatment options before deciding to use METACAM. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response. METACAM should be administered initially at 0.09 mg⁄lb. (0.2 mg⁄kg) body weight only on the first day of treatment. For all treatments after day 1, METACAM should be administered once daily at a dose of 0.045 mg⁄lb. (0.1 mg⁄kg). The syringe is calibrated to deliver the daily oral maintenance dose in pounds. Please note: Using the weight of your dog, and noting the dose concentration of the METACAM, use the full prescribing information to determine how to draw up the dose (syringe or dropper) and administer the dose (directly into the mouth or mixed in with the food).
Missed Doses: Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once. If you have questions about your pet's prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please consult your veterinarian.
Side Effects: As a class, cyclo-oxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs may be associated with stomach, liver, or kidney problems. The most common side effects of this medication are vomiting and soft stool or diarrhea. These are usually mild and affect primarily the gastrointestinal system, but more serious side effects can occur. Therefore, NSAIDs should only be administered under the direction of a licensed professional. If you notice side effects in your dog during treatment, stop the drug and call your veterinarian. If you notice anything unusual, please consult your veterinarian.

The safe use of METACAM (meloxicam oral suspension) in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Meloxicam is not recommended for use in dogs with bleeding disorders, as safety has not been established in dogs with these disorders. With your veterinarian, carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of METACAM and other treatment options before deciding to use METACAM. Do not administer Metacam Oral Suspension to animals with a known or suspected allergy⁄hypersensitivity to meloxicam or any other NSAID medication. Allergic reactions to medications may occur.
