DESCRIPTION: Mirataz is the first, only transdermal medication approved by the FDA to manage feline weight loss. This ointment contains the active ingredient Mirtazapine, and it comes in the form of a topical, easy-to-apply ointment that is administered in the inner earlobe of the cat. It then absorbs into the animal's bloodstream through his or her skin.
Key Benefits:
Mirtazapine is known to antagonize many receptors (H1 histamine receptors, 5-HT3, 5-HT2C, and 5-HT2A serotonin receptors, and presynaptic a2 receptors). This causes enhanced release of noradrenaline (NE)2 and serotonin (5-HT), and interaction with nuclei within the hypothalamus 1.
Formulated For: For use in cats
How is Medication Given?
To topically administer, apply a 1.5-inch ribbon (around 0.1 mL, or 2 mg per cat) onto the inner pinna inside the ear. Repeat daily for a 14-day period. Following application, ensure that animals and people in the home don't make contact with the cat for 2 hours. Mirtazapine is orally and transdermally absorbed.
