    DESCRIPTION

    Methotrexate works by suppressing the immune system. It is commonly used for the treatment of solid tumors, such as lymphoma.

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in a strength of 2.5 mg.

    Possible Side Effects: Possible adverse reactions include:

  • Decreased Energy
  • Hair Loss
  • Vomiting (Particularly in Dogs)
  • Inappetence (Particularly in Cats)
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea

    Precautions:

  • If a dose is accidentally missed, administer it as soon as possible. If it is almost time to administer the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the dose you missed and proceed with the usual schedule. If you aren't sure when to administer missed doses, speak to your vet.
  • Strictly adhere to the prescribing vet's directions. Never withdraw use without veterinarian consent.
  • Your pet's veterinarian might find it prudent to monitor the animal for Methotrexate-related toxicities. This could entail monitoring for gastrointestinal irritation or by performing laboratory testing, including liver function testing, renal function testing, and complete blood counts.
  • This drug can interact with many others, including Folic Acid, Cyclosporine, and NSAIDs. Always speak to your vet about any herbal products, supplements, and medications your pet is taking prior to beginning Methotrexate treatment.
  • Do not administer to a nursing or pregnant animal.
  • Prevent human exposure when handling this medication by wearing gloves and washing your hands afterward. It is particularly important to weargloves when splitting a tablet or handling a broken tablet.
  • Keep out of reach of animals and children.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry environment. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

    In Case of Overdose: Call your nearest emergency pet hospital.
