    DESCRIPTION

    MilbeGuard is a flavored, once-monthly tablet that prevents heartworm disease associated with Dirofilaria immitis, controls and removes whipworms (Trichuris vulpis) and roundworms (adult Toxascaris leonina and Toxocara canis), and controls hookworms (adult Ancylostoma caninum). It can be used in dogs and cats.

    How is Medication Given? For use in dogs:

  • These dual-purpose tablets can be given as a tablet or administered in food. In either case, dogs should be monitored to ensure complete dose consumption.
  • If the full dose is not consumed, another dose should be administered ASAP.
  • Administer on a monthly basis on the same day each month.
  • Administer the initial dose within a month of first mosquito exposure. Thereafter, administer monthly until mosquito season has ended.
  • If you miss a dose and 30 days have passed, administer right away and return to the monthly administration schedule.
  • When using this product to replace DEC (Diethylcarbamazine) to prevent heartworm disease, administer the first dose within 30 days following the final DEC dose. For use in cats:
  • Administer as a tablet or in food.
  • If breaking the tablet eases administration, it is recommended to do so.
  • Cats should be monitored to ensure complete dose consumption. If the full dose is not consumed, another dose should be administered ASAP.
  • Administer on a monthly basis on the same day each month.
  • Administer the initial dose within a month of first mosquito exposure. Thereafter, administer monthly until mosquito season has ended.
  • If you miss a dose and 30 days have passed, administer right away and return to the monthly administration schedule.
  • A heartworm test is recommended before starting treatment with this product.

    Precautions:

  • Not proven safe for use in breeding, lactating, or pregnant animals, or in cats who are positive for heartworms.
  • Never use in a kitten under the age of 6 weeks or weighing less than 1.5 pounds.
  • Short-term, mild hypersensitivity can occur in dogs with a large number of circulating microfilariae, which involves signs like lethargy, salivation, vomiting, or labored breathing. This is thought to be the result of protein release from dying or dead microfilariae.
  • Before initiating treatment, dogs should receive a heartworm test. If an infection is found, treatment to remove heartworms should be pursued before starting treatment with this medication.
  • Never administer to a puppy under 4 weeks old or weighing less than 2 pounds.
  • Keep out of reach of animals and children.

    Storage Recommendations: Store at room temperature between 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F).
