Atenolol is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also prescribed to slow or regulate certain tachycardia conditions (rapid and abnormal heart rate) or chest pains associated with coronary artery disease.

    Dogs who have specific ADRB1 genes might be especially sensitive to the effects of this drug.
