DESCRIPTION Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is often used to treat certain cancers in cats and dogs. It is also often used to treat the inflammation and pain associated with osteoarthritis.
Key Benefits:
Piroxicam is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). This non-selective COX (cyclooxygenase inhibitor) has an inhibitory effect on both COX-1 and COX-2. COX-1 is responsible for the production of prostaglandins that regulate homeostasis and help the kidneys respond to hypotension and protect the gastrointestinal tract. COX-2 is responsible for producing prostaglandins, which increase when inflammation is present. This receptor is upregulated in the case of certain tumors, including nasal epithelial tumors, mammary tumors, oral melanoma, oral squamous cell carcinoma, colorectal tumors, prostatic carcinoma, TCC (urinary bladder transitional cell carcinoma), and osteosarcoma.
