DESCRIPTION:

Meloxicam Tablets are NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) tablets that help relieve arthritis-related symptoms, primary dysmenorrhea, and fever. They can also be used as an analgesic in inflammatory conditions.

  • Meloxicam works by blocking COX 1 and COX 2 (enzymes that produce prostaglandin), reducing prostaglandin levels.
  • Through this activity, inflammation is reduced, as are the symptoms related to inflammation.

    Dose and Administration: Tablets are sold individually in 7.5 mg or 15 mg strengths.

    Possible Side Effects: Potential side effects, which require drug withdrawal and veterinarian notification, include:

  • Gum paleness
  • Lethargy
  • Shedding
  • Incoordination
  • Seizures
  • Changes in behavior
  • Jaundice (yellow gums, skin, or eyes), an indicator of a liver problem
  • Increase in thirst
  • Increase in urination
  • Changes in the color or smell of urine
  • Inappetence
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Dark, tarry, or bloody stools
  • Constipation
  • Upset stomach (the most common side effect)

    Precautions: If your dog:

  • Is allergic to aspirin or any other NSAID
  • Has a stomach ulcer
  • Has stomach bleeding
