DESCRIPTION

Doxepin HCL treats depression, noise aversion, and other anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorders in dogs, such as acral lick dermatitis.

How is Medication Given?

    What Form Does Medication Come In? Capsules

    Dose and Administration: Capsules are sold individually in strengths of 10, 25, 50, and 100 mg.

    Possible Side Effects: Doxepin offers a lower risk of cardiac side effects than other Tricyclic drugs. However, some patients have experienced ventricular arrhythmia, particularly after overdose. Other potential side effects include:

  • Excitability
  • Gastrointestinal upset
  • Lethargy
  • Other side effects are also possible. Talk to your vet if your pet appears to be having a reaction to Doxepin.

    Precautions:

  • Keep away from children and animals.
  • Do not feed pets aged cheese or use a flea and tick collar concomitantly with Doxepin. This can cause toxicity or death.
  • Other foods and drugs may also interact with this medication. Tell your vet about all other medications you give your dog before initiating treatment with Doxepin.
  • Administer extremely cautiously to animals who are prone to seizures.

    Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool and dry environment between temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F).
