Ask a store associate for details. These fascinating fish are livebearers who can rapidly reproduce in a community aquarium because they give birth to babies, rather than laying eggs. To aid in survival, provide hiding spaces for baby fish. Guppies are omnivores, which mean they eat both plan and animal matter, including small live foods and certain vegetables.

You will see your guppy swimming in the middle and at the top of your aquarium. To create a beautiful aquarium environment, be sure to add some bottom swimmers as well. Ask a PetSmart associate to help you choose.

Things to remember

Adding fish
Whether you're just starting your aquarium or introducing new fish to your tank, don't forget to add only 1-3 at a time.

Choose a vegetable-based flake or pellet food. Feed according to the directions on the packaging.

Specialty foods
Vary their diet by including frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex worms and other small worms, mosquito larvae and daphnia. Always remember to thaw frozen foods before feeding.

Frequent feedings
For optimum health, feed your livebearers as much food as they will consume in 1-3 minutes, twice a day. You can alternate between regular staple diet feedings and 2-4 meals per week of a specialty food.

Livebearers should be kept in a large aquarium, with surface area being more important than depth. Minimum aquarium size should be 10 gallons. A good rule of thumb is one gallon of water for every one inch of full-grown fish.

Decorate their aquarium with lots of live, bunch plants. Be sure to place them on the sides and back of the aquarium so they'll have enough space to swim in the center.

Livebearers need well-oxygenated water, but do not like forceful water motion.

Mollies require a small amount of salt in their aquarium. Add two teaspoons of aquarium salt per gallon of water This will not harm other types of fish living in the aquarium.

Fish compatibility
Livebearers can share their aquarium with other tropical community fish of similar size and temperament, as long as they share similar water requirements

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice fish... be careful though... I bought 2 male fancy guppies about a month ago and they have been doing great! I loved them so much, that I went out and got another one. I made the mistake of buying a SHE and she had fry a little while later. The babies are sooo cute and doing amazing! So in conclusion, if you don't want a lot of babies, don't get a boy and a girl! But they are great fish, and I now have a tank full of guppies! Highly recommend. Just don't keep them by themselves, they are very social creatures. also keep them in a large tank so they have a lot of room to explore.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful fish.... Seem to die easily I fell in love with these fish when I saw them! Bought 5 a few days ago and 2 have already died. I'm having a hard time keeping them alive! I've pretty much always had guppies in my tank and have never had this problem before. Every morning I wake up, there's another one dead! I read other reviews stating issues with them not lasting very long as well, so I'm starting to think maybe it's not me! lol Very pretty and active fish though! I'll keep getting them in hopes I'll get a group that won't die at the drop of a hat! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ah-maze-ing and Playful This fish is amazing. I named him, Firestar.Because his tail looks like fire.He is amzingly fast.I bought him with two other guppies all 3 were on sale for 1.00 . A blue one and and orange. The blue one is called Beluga-Bear, and the orange one is skittles.Always buy these fish in a group of three or more.Or else they get lonely.Mostly these fish are playful.and establish a feeding time scheduale. And after a few days, the little fish will be wating in the area you mainly feed them through.I would reccomend these fish for anyone with nonaggresive fish. They add the beauty and are the color in your aqarium.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The "James Bond" Of the fish world! LOVE him! He is so cute and always swims at the top. Swims with my 2 platys and they are like a clique! Energetic and fun! I call him the James Bond of the fish world because he is always just lurking at the top of the tank for food and then goes and eats a ton of it, and since he is small he can fit into nooks and crannies and eat the food. Great fish!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Joy and Delight! My little guppy is the acrobat of my tank! Sally (I've decided she has a feminine personality) loves to swim around my 10 gallon. Her tail is in constant motion and her colors are vibrant and beautiful. She LOVES when I do a water change or feed her and shows it by zooming around the water. I would highly recommend one of these little beauties, especially for a beginner like me!

Will a Tequila Sunrise guppy fish bite at, or eat a small orange molly?

Asked by: Brookegw
No, in fact, guppies are quite closely related to Mollies. Both being live-bearing fish, they might actually attempt to cross-breed. Being in a social setting, they *may* nip at each other, but this is inevitable in a community tank.

Do these fishes swim in a school.

Asked by: Cristo
No, Guppies tend to swim socially near the top of the tank rather than near the middle in a school. Tetras and other smaller fish tend to school.
