To aid in survival, provide hiding spaces for baby fish. Guppies are omnivores, which mean they eat both plan and animal matter, including small live foods and certain vegetables.

You will see your guppy swimming in the middle and at the top of your aquarium. To create a beautiful aquarium environment, be sure to add some bottom swimmers as well. Ask a PetSmart associate to help you choose.

Things to remember

Adding fish
Whether you're just starting your aquarium or introducing new fish to your tank, don't forget to add only 1-3 at a time.

Nutrition
Choose a vegetable-based flake or pellet food. Feed according to the directions on the packaging.

Specialty foods
Vary their diet by including frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex worms and other small worms, mosquito larvae and daphnia. Always remember to thaw frozen foods before feeding.

Frequent feedings
For optimum health, feed your livebearers as much food as they will consume in 1-3 minutes, twice a day. You can alternate between regular staple diet feedings and 2-4 meals per week of a specialty food.

Aquarium
Livebearers should be kept in a large aquarium, with surface area being more important than depth. Minimum aquarium size should be 10 gallons. A good rule of thumb is one gallon of water for every one inch of full-grown fish.

Décor
Decorate their aquarium with lots of live, bunch plants. Be sure to place them on the sides and back of the aquarium so they'll have enough space to swim in the center.

Filtration
Livebearers need well-oxygenated water, but do not like forceful water motion.

Salt
Mollies require a small amount of salt in their aquarium. Add two teaspoons of aquarium salt per gallon of water This will not harm other types of fish living in the aquarium.

Fish compatibility
Livebearers can share their aquarium with other tropical community fish of similar size and temperament, as long as they share similar water requirements

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE this fish!!! When I went to get my first fish, I got two of these and a Black Kuhli Loach. I named my guppies Smokey and Fire, but this picture online isnt what they look like, theyre yellow, and black, and red, not all red. I lovelovelove this fish because they have such a great personality, and are so playful. Smokey likes to zip up and down the side of my tank!! You should get at least two of these, for Smokey and Fire always swim together. They really get along with my neon tetras, they only peck at them from time to time, as if saying, what the heck are they doing in my tank, since i just got my tetras yesterday. Otherwise, get these fish!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome fish!!!!!!! Theese fish are great! They are great for the expereinced and begginers alike. Super easy to care for and breed. That may be a bad thing for some because if you get a male and a female within the course of a week you will be the owner of multiple fry. They are very peaceful and don't reqire too much space however will prefer it. Great tropical fish!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pet! This fish is absolutely stunning. I have to admit, I felt cautious buying my fish from a neighborhood pet store, but they've impressed me yet again. He is a beautiful red/orange color, and has a lovely long tail that appears to ripple when he swims. He treats my other fish well (no nipping) and swims up to greet me when I feed him.
