Usage: *For complete product information, please review the full prescribing information in the manufacturer package insert. Vetmedin Chewable Tablets should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule. It is important to be consistent with how the medication is given (e.g., timing, with or without food) for every dose. Manufacturer Dosage and Administration: VETMEDIN® (pimobendan) Chewable Tablets should be administered orally at a total daily dose of 0.23 mg⁄lb (0.5 mg⁄kg) body weight, using a suitable combination of whole or half tablets. The total daily dose should be divided into two portions that are not necessarily equal, and the portions should be administered approximately 12 hours apart (i.e., morning and evening). The tablets are scored, and the calculated dosage should be provided to the nearest half–tablet increment.

Missed Doses: Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skipthe missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once.

Side Effects: The most common side effects of this medication are poor appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, shortness of breath, weakness, and ataxia (lack of muscle control and coordination). Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has difficulty breathing, collapses or loses consciousness, has a seizure, or appears to be bloated⁄have increased belly fluid. Notify your veterinarian if your pet experiences any of the effects described above, or if you notice any other side effects that are persistent or troublesome. If you notice anything unusual, please consult your veterinarian.

For oral use in dogs with clinical evidence of heart failure only– not for use in humans. Keep this and all medications in a secure location out of reach of children and animals to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Consult a physician in case of accidental ingestion by humans. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. VETMEDIN® should not be given in cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, or any other clinical condition where an augmentation of cardiac output is inappropriate for functional or anatomical reasons. The safety of VETMEDIN® (pimobendan) Chewable Tablets has not been established in dogs with asymptomatic heart disease or in heart failure caused by etiologies other than MMVD or DCM. The safe use of VETMEDIN® has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs with congenital heart defects, dogs with diabetes mellitus or other serious metabolic diseases, or in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Do not administer to animals with a known history or suspected allergy⁄hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.
